Tamiflu is the trade name for the drug called Oseltamivir and is an
antiviral medication. Tamiflu works through a mechanism of inhibiting a
type of protein called neuraminidase which is used in the reproduction
of some viruses and bacterias. The first neuraminidase inhibitor was
first used by nomadic indians in Nigeria to treat Black Leg disease which is caused by the bacteriaClostridium chovaei. In human medicine, it is used in the treatment of Influenza, swine flu, and some other viral infections. Use in ParvoTreatment Tamiflu
works best if it can be utilized within the
first 48 hours of clinical signs. It can be used proactively in puppies
that may have been exposed. Occasionally Tamilfu is used with other
infections such as distemper however currently we do not know which
veterinary diseases are susceptible to Tamilfu therapy. How do I get Tamiflu? It
needs to be prescribed by your veterinarian. It comes as both a 75mg
capsule and a liquid. Typically it will be purchased at a human
pharmacy.
